The taskforce’s stated remit
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said the Climate and Nature Security Taskforce met for the first time during the week of 19 October. The release gives no exact meeting day. It describes planned risk assessments and recommendations, not completed findings or recommendations.

A polling signal, with a defined population
We included this climate-policy update partly because an ONS release dated 16 October reported that 60% of adults aged 16 and over in Great Britain considered climate change and the environment an important issue facing the UK. The estimate draws on a pooled responding sample of 10,680 people, with fieldwork from 1 July to 27 September 2026. ONS says heatwaves during that period may have influenced responses. The survey covers Great Britain, not the world.
That survey is a signal of public interest used to select a topic. It does not verify climate science, establish the taskforce’s assumptions, or show whether its future recommendations will work.
